Angry Burned out brake light bulb

I learned today at the 1G RDX has no dash indicator if any of the brake light bulbs are burned out. I had 2 out of 3 lights burned out - who knows for how long. Very dangerous. Replaced them today.

Growing up with cars that tell you nothing, I learned to check lights in the reflection of store windows. I still do it because I don't trust the idiot systems.

Back up to a window and check your brake lights regularly.

Yeah. Only car I've ever owned with a tail light indicator was my 4G Camry.

it's like the first rule of not getting pulled over; check all your light bulbs!

My wife primarily drives this car, and she is not as observant as I am. I also maybe just don't go to places that have reflections for me to easily check the lights. It's interesting to me that my old 99 TL has a dedicated dash idiot light that tells you one or more bulbs are burned out.

better start performing light checks, then!

"hunny, before you leave...press the brakes so I can check the lights. now, left signal..now right signal!" then move to the front of the car and do the same

takes less than 2 minutes and you are ensuring your wife's safety

Come to think of it, only cars I've seen with it was a 2001 Camry and 2003 Lexus ES300. Maybe that idiot light was a late 90's early 2000's thing?

I'm curious if my other cars have indicator lights. But I would imagine modern cars with all their advanced electronics can easily detect a non-functional light and display such a message on the screen. At least i would hope so.

Unless you convert to LED and add resistors that would override the sensors.

But my 99 TL didn't have LED lights, and one time when the brake light burned out, a special idiot light illuminated in the dash every time I stepped on the brake. That was quite handy.

The 1G RDX has all incandescent taillights.

Right. My point was, the 99 TL was also all incandescent lights, and yet it had a special idiot light in the dash to tell you a bulb (just a bulb somewhere - wasn't smart enough to indicate where) was burned out.

isnt it pointless to compare, as it wont help you on your current car?

I'm just surprised that a much older and cheaper car has a feature the RDX doesn't have. Not a big deal. I know to check lights for operation. I just got caught surprised as it's not my primary driver.
