BRake Shims?

I am replacing the pads on the front and rear brakes of my 2008 RDX and notice that the original pads have shims installed. Is it necessary to re-install these same shims on new brake pads?

if your new ones don't have any.. helps prevent noise. Use with some of that brake quiet stuff too.

Thanks BigHatch. So the original equipment shims are only to prevent some brake noise? I might re-install them since I kept them but so far I have no noise without them after several hundred miles and brake operation seems good.
