Arrow April 2007 Sales #s

*** RDX sales dropped from 2,424 in March to 2,151 in April. ***

I had a check ready with me early April when I walked in Acura of Bellevue, WA. I was targeting on a Tech one and willing to get it for $35,000, price which is higher than most of ppl paid for theirs. However, after sitting down with their sales person and told him what I was willing to pay, he threw me one question right back: Are you trying to take advantage of RDX not-selling by offing price below MSRP........of course they might thought that RDX sales in March may repeat of even get surpassed in April or later month. Unfortunately THEY ARE WRONG !! Guess better promotional offers are on the way.

You mean, you had your mind made up ready to buy the RDX for 35K right? Not having a cheque made out for 35,000 dollars, I don't think. Dealers do not take personal cheques for that kind of amount, rather certified cheque or bank draft. The latter two cheques need the name of the party to be paid written down. And I don't think you would be carrying a "blank" certified cheque walking around town, especially one with 35,000 green-backs.

BTW, for some reason, the RDX here in Vancouver, BC, is selling quite well...

I'd be forced to laugh if a sales guy asked me this question. The answer of course is a resounding YES, that is how a capitalistic econcomy works; prices are based on supply and demand. And demand for this car ain't dere right now. Tell him we're not in the old Sovietski republiks, he's selling an RDX, not a Murcielago, and then remind him that 35k is actually MORE than favorable for his dealer as Techs are going for around $34 and some change these past several months.

Matter of fact, I'd bypass this schmo entirely and just deal with the internet sales mgr. Your best bet anyway is to email several ISMs and ask them for their best price on the exact model/colors you want. That's how I got my $34,200 deal with all-season mats, flaps, etc.

Interesting comments. The RDX seems to be selling quite well in Canada...few to choose from even with the big dealers. And the US tech version is a better vehicle than the Canadian tech with included XM Radio and live traffic updates. I am from Saskatoon and they only have a demo and 1 unit fort sale. When I dealt with them they said they would have to order a CBP tech in for me so I bought in Edmonton and paid MSRP with command start as a throw in.
No doubt in my mind though that this vehicle will be around for a long time....most fun that I have had in 30 years of driving!

Mine, too. They did do a credit check first, though.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions, that is a fairly small drop. And in reality, sales follow seasonal/monthly trends. Without a prior year to compare to, we can't really say for sure how good/bad the April sales are or whether a small drop from March is bad or normal.

Sales were far worse in the earlier months of RDX availability, so I would not be surprised if Acura was happy the level is "up" from the real lows. They have established a long term trend of 1950 units a month, so 2151 is better than average for the RDX.

This morning on a local radio station their consumer reporter had a segment about how car sales were down across the board for auto makers in April and how it could lead to excess inventory during the normally busy summer season and therefore better prices. He specifically mentioned that Toyota, who had been going strong, saw a decrease in April.

All the "increasing gas prices" hype being played out on every news channel probably doesn't help car sales for those vehicles w/ < 20 MPG either...

I'm thinking this summer would be a great time to buy the RDX.

as these are American sales figures, would be very interested in seeing what Canadian figures look like, if they are published anywhere...

People need to pay their taxes in April - or are perhaps waiting for their refund in May. Of course I didn't contribute to the slow down - bought two weeks ago.

most dealerships only accept a certain amount on credit... that is why you can't get all those reward points for a new car...
