Isn't the Navi the same as the RL's? So if it is can't you just use the RL "hack"(I don't know if there is on). Unless the software is different from the RL, then it wouldn't work.

The RL guys are clueless. They haven't hacked it yet, and they are wanting to hire kids to do it for them in the RL forum.

Haven't heard of anyone hacking the version 4 discs yet. I'm gonna give it a shot, but don't get your hopes up!

The hacks that they have made on the older acura nav software are:

1. changing the splash screen when the navigation starts up.
2. getting rid of the "OK" screen
3. modifying the trip computer to do something (never seen this so not sure what it is)

changing the splash screen is trivial as far as function, but I would like to not have to hit OK everytime I turn the car on, but rather would like the map to just come on. The downside to this is that your map always comes on and most of the time, you don't need it to. Speaking for myself, I don't think I need a map everytime I drive to and from work so most of the time, I don't hit the OK, and the screen just shuts off after it times out and it stays off the entire ride. But some people like to have the map on all the time, and don't like having to hit the OK everytime. Especially when it is the same disclaimer for the 1000th time. Who here has read it everytime they hit OK? It could tell me who is going to win the superbowl this year and I wouldn't ever know it! You can browse the TSX or TL forums to learn more about it...

Makes sense, thanks. The OK screen is very annoying, but Honda/Acura does not want to get sued for sending you off a cliff because the Navi said there was a road there!

I noted it on the "wish for 2008" list ... but don't complain. Toyota/Lexus locks out everything but voice commands while the car is in anything but P.

The older version had some goofy 5-push override (hit menu, hit blank upper right corner of screen, hit blank bottom right corner, volume up, volume up or something like that). They eliminated even that with the new version.

Yes, but it isn't that good, the resolution of the nav screen is pretty low. I'm gonna end up going with another screen, maybe a sunvisor screen.

I'd look to see if you could find the RES from an older MDX, that may be nice. I hope your not talking about a screen for your sun visor.

Well it wouldn't be my sunvisor, but the passenger's sunvisor... you have a better idea? All navigation screens are very low res and would not function for my purposes which isn't just DVD video, but functioning as a computer screen as well. and no I'm not talking about while I'm driving....

I didn't take any photos of it, but I purchased a NavVideo product from G-Net. They make an interface that will interupt whatever video signal is being sent to the nav screen and you can input whatever you want into it through two composite video connectors.

If you want one, I have one you can buy! But again, I don't recommend it. Plus the dealer really doesn't recommend it. They say it could blow your nav unit and that costs $4500 to replace. Although I ran it through its paces when I had it connected and had no problems with it except the poor resolution of the screen itself.

If you do a search for NavVideo and G-Net you should find their website pretty easily.
