2007 RDX overheating!

Hello I'm new here and haven't be able to pin point the problem to my 07 rdx. I bought one like last month with 105k miles and everything was fine, ran strong no issues. Fast forward to today, my rdx has been rising in temp everytime I accelerate. If I continue to press the gas pedal and leave it around 2500 rpm to 3000rpm or even greater, the car begins to rise in temp, I'm not very car savvy so I don't want to waste money here and there trying to figure out what's wrong with it. And I've had really has experience with shops here in NV. Any help?

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Usually if one chooses not to get help from a mechanic nearby would be because is knowledgeable to check, hope to diagnose, maybe even save money in the process.
In your case you bought a used car that is now overheating, and you are not very car savvy, so suggest specialized trusted help may save you money and definitely time, ymmv

if you choose to diy, then this forum has lots of discussions about possible related failure points, and many others how to fix it yourself... You will need to be able to check/answer to yourself many questions, like coolant service history, level in the radiator and expansion reservoir, are the fans working or which one isnt, find and test the two relays ( for radiator fan and AC fan) are there any leaks, or history of topping up, and maybe others as well.

I suggest you refrain from driving it, until you find a cause and maybe fix it. The cooling system is also connected to the transmission, a malfunctioning one if it involves the radiator can affect both the engine and the transmission maybe even before you realize there is a problem brewing.

here is a detailed discussion about overheating, not specific to our car model.
engine over-heating-why?

specific searches for discussions on this website can be done that will depend on your test results, suggest the advanced option and restrict it to the first generation RDX forum.

regarding your car being at 105k miles, did it have its accessory belt service done yet? That may include water pump, new coolant, new radiator cap, thermostat, coolant sensor, radiator if need be or you so choose, now is the time to do it (sparkplugs, check valves)... see the maintenance items for this mileage...

let us know how you are making out.
cheers

Thanks for the link, it just has me stummped because it overheats on hard accelerate and when I let the gas go, it starts to cool down to op temperature. The temp stay on normal when I don't step to hard on the gas or I'm going up a ramp to get on the highway. I've noticed today that coolant started to bleed slowly out of the radiator neck without the cap on a semi cooled engine. I'm trying to not overthink it, thinking the worst that it could be a blown head gasket. The car cost me a good penny, and since I bought the car I've already had to change the alternator, ac compressor and battery , in a span of 1 month. IDK how much more I can take. I sold my old car to get something better, and I heard so much good things about the rdx. Now, I don't know what to think. But thanks!

I see, been there when I got the car used, base@200k km, first thing I did was a test for blown head gasket

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/he...ket-blown-test

found a shop with free loan-a-tool program, 15' later I knew the rdx probably had a good gasket and my other car had a blown one. Then I proceeded with the necessary and costly
maintenance-assumed that had not been done at 105k miles at it should have been... ended up choosing to preventively replace the radiator later myself, which turned out to be a repair, had a pinhole in an area I could not examine easily.

Now still enjoying the RDX 70k km later, while the other is now a short distance car (civic gasket not yet replaced, topping the radiator with water during summertime).

read here (msg #11 was interesting...)

As I said, if you want to diy it will take much longer than in a shop and you may have to find the answers I pointed out. If you share the tests you do/did maybe someone will be able to help out.
