'08 RDX squatting below 7' thick maple ...

Readers -

My first post. Unfortunately on Monday a storm blew through an decided to topple over a 7' thick maple tree onto my garage ... and my wife's '08 RDX.

I am working with the insurance now, but my biggest concern is the structural integrity of the frame. You'll see the damage in the shots below is not as dramatic as you would think (the garage was cinder block and brick) but the car had a TON of weight sitting on it.

I certainly expect this to be a total-loss, but your opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad to hear nobody got hurt though. Did you only upload thumbnails?

As a request, does anyone have a diagram of the frame and crumple zones? The owners manual has a cartoonish version of it, but was hoping someone on the site has access to the real manuals that show this in more detail.

There are no crumple zones for the roof and pillars to protect occupants during a rollover.

It would be a shame if it's a total loss....the car doesn't seem to be that damaged.

Result was a total loss ... over $11K worth of work, but the car had been sitting under a roof long enough with exposure to the elements that the insurance took care of me. Part of me feels bad, but, honestly, its piece of mind.

RDX replaced my totaled WRX. Initially, the premium on RDX was lower than WRX, but the insurance company (American Family Insurance) almost tripled the premium at renewal. You may see you premium skyrocketing after 6 months or so.
