Honda presented its new 2010 machine and plan for SUPER GT
Loic pairs up with Kogure!! Michigami to NAKAJIMA, TEAM KUNIMITSU with a fresh duo.
On January 18th, Honda Motor presented their brand new 2010 SUPER GT GT500 machine, HSV-010 GT, in front of media and unveiled its key specification at Suzuka Circuit where manufactures are set to begin joint testing the next day. Honda also announced their affiliate teams' drivers' line-up.
Honda will field HSV-010 GT, which the company had already unveiled last year, as their brand new GT500 class machine for 2010 season. The car made its official appearance in front of media at the announcement.
Honda GT Project Leader Keinosuke Taki, who lead the overall development of HSV-010 GT, suggested his confidence in his car despite it is totally brand new, "The main concept in developing HSV-010 GT was 'easy to handle' with the aim to create an 'ultimate cornering machine' even better than NSX. We have received good feedbacks on these points from our drivers at the testing in December. The know-how that we had accumulated with NSX is applied to the suspension system as well as frame structure. For the engine, we took HR10EG that we use for Formula NIPPON and improved fuel efficiency and optimized intake and exhaust system to create HR10EG made for SUPER GT.
"Since the shape of trunk lid at the rear is quite complicated, we had to use up all the space to the regulated limit of overhang for rear wing's stay. It also acts as a protection for the exhaust pipe from bumping at the rear end. We had incidents last year where the car caught on fire from broken exhaust. One point that we put a special effort in particular was the exhaust note. We wanted to provide "Honda sound" that is more sensual than NSX. In fact, we had an exhaust system that produced pretty good horsepower, but we gave it nay because it didn't 'sound good.' It was about 70% at the testing in December. And we haven't done a long (run testing), so we should focus on how the car matches with the tires."
Abstract from Honda's news release.

Most notable point in the drivers' line-up would be last year's Formula NIPPON champion Loic Duval's move to DOME RACING. Teaming up with Takashi Kogure, who remains with the team, would make them the fastest combination in real sense. An NSX mister, Ryo Michigami, is switching his team to NAKAJIMA RACING. He will team up with a GT500 class sophomore, Nakayama. Winning two races with ARTA last year, Takuya Izawa will be with TEAM KUNIMITSU. He will take up the role of first driver for the team in his third year in the series with last year's All Japan F3 National class champion and a SUPER GT rookie Naoki Yamamoto as his partner. Yamamoto's first win in the series would be their first objective. Despite falling short to the title last season, ARTA's ace remains steady with Ralph Firman. The team brings in Yuji Ide as their undertaker for the title to regain the series champion since 2007 with HSV-010GT. REAL RACING keeps their drivers' line-up unchanged with Toshihiro Kaneishi and Koudai Tsukakoshi. Their aim would be to score their first win and stay in the contention for the title.

Duval: "Car is good. It looks good too. I tested it a little bit and I think we had a good start. It would be the first time to team up with Kogure in SUPER GT, but we have been in the same team in Formula NIPPON, and, since we have similar driving style, I think we have a big advantage. I'll do my best!"
NAKAJIMA RACING
Nakayama, Team Manager Satoru Nakajima, Michigami
Michigami: "'I was asked to support NAKAJIMA RACING especially in developing tires with my experience. My first goal is to get pole-position at the season opener. I will be racing with tires of different make, but, after all, I want to give an impact."

Izawa, Team Manager Kunimitsu Takahashi, Yamamoto
Yamamoto: "When I had a chance drive it, I was so excited that I couldn't help but smile once I sat in the cockpit. First of all, I need to get used to the car as soon as possible, stay concentrated, and be myself, but I also want to enjoy it while I'm driving too."

I think it still has a chance. As much R&D as they've put into it, it would be the biggest waste for it not to see production. Maybe in a year or so when (if) the economy picks back up... I hope and pray!

This could be an LFA competitor.

Once all those FIA spec aerodynamics are removed on the road version, I don't think that car will look all that great.
Honda should stick with the mid-engine layout for the next NSX. (HSC I think).

I don't want a lfa competitor, I want a NSX replacement? Does that make sense? Not that I wouldn't love to own that ^^ car, but it doesn't seem to continue the tradition....
