Toyo Proxes 4 vs. General Exclaim UHP (noise)
I have been in the market for tires and I am looking for a decent handling tire with little road noise. I installed the general exclaims last week and they are really noisy while cruising between 40 and 70km/h. I am not impressed with the noise and the tires transfer lots of high frequency vibration through the fire wall and make the car shake. Wheels are brand new and perfectly true (8 thou at most) and balanced so I know it is the tread pattern.
I am getting some Toyo proxes 4 installed tomorrow. Does anyone think they are going to be louder in terms of road noise then the generals? Have you had any experience with both tires? I have read the forum and see some people stating they are quiet, but some say they are really noisy. Can people be confused between road noise and pushing the tires to their limits??
Im running 205/55/R16 on non OE wheels.
thanks for any imput, cheers

Drifting
A friend of mine has been running 215-225/40/R18 proxes 4's for at least 3 years on his car ('04 jetta GLI) and they seem to be great... I've driven the car, and been all over the place and the thing, and I don't notice any more road noise than any other car I've ever been in... I've been so impressed that I've also been looking at these for when I get my 18's hopefully sometime soon. Hope the input helps...

Mattastick: thanks for the input and glad to hear someone enjoys the tires.
Gnate: are you sure it was the proxes 4? I have read more then excellent reviews, but I think you might be mistaken for the proxes fz4 which havent been reviewed too well.
Has anyone tried both tires?

Just a quick update for anyone who cares or searches this thread later. DO NOT TOUCH those general exclaim UHP. Noisy as hell. Installed the Toyo Proxes 4 and they are significantly better in all ranges from handling and more importantly road noise (for me at least).
If you care to enjoy a smooth ride spend the extra couple $$ and dont piss around on tires. Never go cheap and never buy used. Tires are the single most important piece of equip you can purchase for you car so make it a well researched and educated purchase. You will not regret it.
thanks for the other couple opinions.
