Angry Coilover height won't wdjust while on the car!!

ok, so I know this is i the wrong section, and will get moved, but it'll get some views in teh main section first.

ok, so I just put the front balljoint camber kit on teh front of the car, and I went to adjsut the height and it won't adjust. I use the little hook tools that are supllied, jack the car up and reach around the tire, and use the hook things to turn the knob thing circled in the picture below, but when I turn it to raise it, it comes disconnected from the purple shaft below it and it stays in place. do I have to loosen the bolt holding the lower part in before I can adjust eh height or something? Help would be much appreciated, and if you don't have anything constructive to say, then STFU!.

if your trying to adjust the height, you should be able to only adjust the "spring seat" under the spring. the smaller one under that is the "spring seat lock". i don't think you need to adjust the seat that you've circled?. most suspension i've seen don't have anything like that?.

the ones coircled are there to hold the entire assembly in place.. didnt it come with two spanner wrenches (hook tools) use one just to keep the lower part in place and the other to move the spring seat up and down..

ah, but that's where you're wrong. in the little booklet that came with it, one of the few things it said was not to adjust the height with the spring preload. And wht part that I circled is seperate from the purple shaft. they are just tightened really close to each other.

here:

it says : for extending the life of the coilovers...do not adjust hight from the A position.

Adjusting the heigh has to be done from the B piece (the purple shaft), and has to tie up with C ( the thing the spanner wrenches hook on to right next to eh purle shaft)

so I guess I will just be taking out some bolts and adjustig the higt the right way.

oh well.

They are strut body and spring adjustable. You can adjust the perches under the spring itself, for racing tho spring preload is very important, since their competition coilovers they sugguest not to adjust the spring preload. You want to adjust the strut body and perches so that their balanced and not to bottom out the strut.

That would suck to have to take them out all the time. Maybe not all the way though, but loosen it a bit?

yeah, I can just take out one bolt per peice to adjust the height, but i just heard of people jacking up the car and adjusting the height without even taking the wheel off, an I thought I might have been doing something wrong.

I would just take it out and match it half for half. Basically set the strut body on a inbetween height and do what little adjustments from the spring perch. Alot of people that compete like to have a preloaded spring. Thats why they sugguest to move the strut body to lower/raise the vehicle. Preloaded springs are for the maxium performance of the coilover strut.

well that's what I did earlier today. just partially disassembled the suspension, and adjusted teh lower part to do it. Dropped it like 2-3 inches... un-fucking-believable how much different/better it looks now. I think I'm gonna drop teh front another 1/2" then take it in for an alignment. Pics will come soon.

oh, and I also preloaded the springs a bit, and for some reason I'd swear the car rides better and handles better.

when I did it, i measured all the struts to be almost exactly the same plus a TINY bit higher on teh drivers side for my weight.

too much misconceptions in this thread

jack the car up, loosen the bottom locking collars you circled red...these act like locking nuts....spin them up the shaft an inch or so. Now, put on some gloves (or use your hands if you want...but gloves will give you grip and easier on the hands) and spin the threaded shaft of the shock body...this will allow the shock to move up or down along the bottom collar (the long purple cylinder at the bottom of your shocks that attatches to the control arm of your car)

if you are adjusting from the spring perch like regular coilovers, you are effecting the amount of shock travel the piston of the shock has as you lower it...this is bad....if you adjust it using the lower collar, you are not affecting the amount of shock travel...this is good

as far as preload, i've yet to see any street coilover have an effective preload adjustment option. To adjust the preload of a spring, you'll have to do it while the car is resting on the springs and adjust it using a separate collar/nut located on the top hat (sort of like omnipower...but more efficient)...preloading a spring before placing it on the car is useless
