Who has done a 5 lug conversion on their 2.2 and how much did it cost?

Why do you guys say it's a waist of money? It's all rellative. Anything can be a waste of money to certain people. But if it's something a person wants to do and that person wants to spend the money on it, then it's not a waste of money to that person.

I actually think it's not a bad idea and I've thought about it myself. All you need is the parts from an old car. How much could that be? Probably around a 100 bucks or so. Is that a lot? To some it is, but others it's not.

The reason I like the idea is because I'm a fan of factory Honda and Acura wheels. I like the factory look for my car. I want it to look like it could have been purchase new that way. The only way to upsize wheels with factory Honda wheels is to go with a 5 lug conversion.

I would personaly go with 17" Accord wheels. There's several different styles that I like. Slap some Acura Center caps on it and I'm set.

Now I've been told that you can't do the conversion with the 5 lug Accord parts or the CL/TL. You have to go with the first generation Odyssey. I'm not sure if that's fact, but that's what I heard. I don't know exactly what parts would be needed, but It can't be that hard to do. If Civic guys can do it, why can't we?

Why did you put "Civic's" in quotes? They actually did do a conversion on their Civic's. It's not they did a conversion on a fake Civic.

If you can do the conversion for about $100 or so like you say, then it doesn't seem like a real waste of money. But if the conversion ends up costing more like $500+, then it seems like a real big waste of money to me. If you really like the Honda and Acura factory wheels better than aftermarket wheels (which you would have more money to spend on because no conversion would be neccessary), then I guess it wouldn't be a waste of money for you. Most people prefer aftermarket wheels to Honda and Acura facory wheels and there are is no shortage of aftermarket wheels that come in our stock bolt pattern. The money you would be spending to do the conversion could go towards nicer wheels that fit our 4-bolt pattern.

Well, I don't know for sure that it would be so cheap, but I'm sure it's pretty cheap at a junk yard. Also factory alloys are really popular...at least with the Civic croud. Don't you guys remember the GSR and 99-00 SI wheel craze. Why did these civic guys want them? It's cause they were bigger than the 14" stock ones. I've seen 5th gen accord guys with Prelude wheels because they were bigger than any stock Accord wheel of that year. What about the 6th gen accord guys rolling around with Type-S wheels. If there was a first gen CL wheel that was four lug and 17" that looked nice, I'd get those and not worry about 5 lugs. I'm sure a lot of people would too.

....

personally, i think a 5 lug conversion would be tight too. I was thinking if the 2000+ tl factory wheels were possible, because they look like our 5 split spoke factory wheels. If you can do it for cheap man, share the info...

This is what it runs for labor alone. This does not include the cost of parts. And this is what is changed during a 4to5 lug conversion.

"Brake / Suspension Service Price EF/EG
EK/DC chassis $375
5 lug Type R / 4 lug GSR Brake Conversion
We will replace your entire Civic brake system with larger Integra counterpats. Upgrade to Integra four wheel disk brakes or the huge Type R 5 lug setup. Includes changing the Master Cylinder, brake booster, and brake porportioniong valve (as needed). Full bench bleed of M.C. and fluid flush of entire system to restore original brake performance."

I'm gonna ask my super mechanic this weekend, and see what he says. This guy builds right hand drive RX-7's and all kinds of Nissans. I would love to have the factory CL Type S wheels but I really want the new Racing Harts J5 or J8 that is why I wanna do the conversion. Plus the majority of the 5 lug wheels have a deeper dish. On my civic before I went bigger I had factory GSR wheels, so I know what people mean by the factory Acura/Honda Wheels.

It depends on the offset of the wheel.

Don't do it, the won't be right. The handling and the strenght of the car will be degraded. Also a lot of the aftermarket stuff will break and give u plenty of headaches.

If you can't find rims that you like that are 4-lug, then you are not looking hard enough. They make every rim design you could ever want in 4-lug. Its not like 5-lugs makes it a better wheel.

the point of doing a brake conversion on a 2.2 is so you can have a rotor over hub configuration as opposed to the stock hub over rotor..no more need to press or hammer out the front brakes

it also gives you the freedome of running larger discs as well as swap in better calipers

if you're doing this for bling factor...you should save your money...but it's your money do what you want with it

also, i don't see how the handling and strength of the car will be effected but maybe someone can explain that to me

here's a write up..have fun

It definately opens up a lot more options for wheels, I am just going with a different style and set of mods than I originally intended. I went through 2 sets of 5 lug wheels before I found the style of wheel that I wanted. I had these made for my chromies which I'm selling to a friend of mine, and figured screw it, I'll go 4 lug. Would you be interested sub? PM Me
