called acura customer service, gave them my vin..
told me my egr parts are covered up to 80k/8years, and that all expenses will be at my own cost :-(
taking to my mechanic who works out of his home garage to clean up intake manifold, and egr port..

I just saw this thread, after just today taking my cl to the mechanic for "insufficient egr flow" I just went for a diagnostic, but then read this. I just called the closest acura dealer, gave them my VIN(for a 97' CL 3.0L) and told them the warranty I read about. Specifically the egr emissions recall and warranty.
They politely said "okay, lets set up an appointment, would you need a loaner car?" "Could I have the loaner over night since I live so far away?" "yes, no problem sir"
Well, to say the least I'm shocked by how nice they were. I hope they dont jerk me around when I get there, but so far it seems like every thing is ok. btw, my car has 83,300mi.

Since my appointment is coming up in a few days, I dont want to be surprised, will they give me shit for my SRI?
I know it seems stupid, but I could see a dealership, trying to get out of free work.

You shouldn't have a problem.
The way warranties work in the US is that unless it can be proven that an aftermarket part caused damage, your warranty cannot be voided. The EGR is a known problem on these cars, and a SRI would not have caused the issue by itself.
Read up on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. There's a bunch of information over on FTC.gov.
If they were to refuse service, get it in writing. You'll be able to challenge them in court.

Have them agree that if additional work is required, they must call you first before going through with it. That's how all shops should work. There's a few that don't unfortunately, but besides being expensive Acura does a good job.

I dont know what the conditions are for the loaner, but I didn't even ask, she did
Now, I dont know if there are age requirements or what, since I'm 27, might not want to loan a new TL or whatever to a 19yr old, but I'm completely speculating. best bet is to just call, it was easy and went very fast.
doubleshot- thank you for the info, I guess I'll just make it absolutely clear to them, that I'm not paying for something unless they talk to me first.

they just called and said my car is done. To be honest I really dont want to return this TL. It's freakin sweet!
Here's the funny part of this repair, my mechanic had cleared out the error codes, and the person at the acura dealership said, were gonna drive around and see if the error comes back up, there was an implied wink wink in there. Translates to, I tink da EGR might have an accident, if you know what I mean.
So far so good, I still have the TL, gonna go get my CL in a few hours. Still amazed that I get a 2008 TL to drive around in, while my 1997! CL is in for warranty work...nothing about that seems normal.

hey just an update for you guys. I had the same issue with my CL. EGR code came up. I called the dealer, and they were able to take care of it under warranty. Though I didnt get the work that some ppl got on this thread. They cleaned out my EGR ports, and thats it. Didn't replace the EGR valve, plugs, wires, cap...etc. Was I supposed to get all that changed. Also all you guys with loaners are bloody lucky. I didnt get one ! They said that they dont hand out loaners when theyre doing warranty work!
My cars a 97 CL 2.2 btw...

So does anyone else get a multitude of calls from various number, wanting to either sell an extended warranty or complete a customer survey? I'm getting rather pissed, it's like e-mail spam but worse and they're calling my cell phone... .ridiculous, it's something I'd expect from a lesser company and not acura.

3.0 EGR Help
I have searched for hours and all the DIY EGR guides are several years old and the links do not work. Does anyone have a DIY guide to clean the EGR port for my 1998 3.0 CL? I would totally appreciate it, thanks!

Called Acura Canda Customer Relations today @ 1 (888) 922-8729.
Acura Canada only offered the Extended Warranty on the P0401 EGR issue up to 130,000 km or 8 years whichever comes first.
Why do we always get screwed by car makers in Canada?
My car has 201,000 km and besides the CEL runs well.
I called about this to the dealer June of 2007 and was quoted $200 to clean out the EGR port and $161 (retail) for new EGR valve with gaskets (they seem to insist on changing it)
Oh well. Mach30SiR You will get a PM.

I know this is an old thread, but I have a 97 3.0 cl with the same issue with the EGR and called the dealer and they say the recall doesn't exist. I need to get this fixed. Any help would be appreciated.
