I can't remember; does our cars have one fan or two, but anyways your fan motor maybe going out. One fan is supose to be on any time the car is running, and the other fan runs only when the AC compressor is running. Each fan should have there own motor, and the fan that is supose to be running all the time has probably gone bad.

one of the fans does keep on running after shut off, even though it was just a regular drive. the problem is kinda on and off though. sometimes i get that hi-temp reading then it will be like after two days or so and it'll come back again. startin' to piss me off coz i took it to the shop but they couldn't figure out what.

There are 2 fans, one runs constantly, the other is controlled by the thermostat

thermostat is bad, just replace it. Probably won't hurt to flush your radiator system either, it's simple to do.
