V6 Tranny Issue
V6 Tranny Issue
Hey there,
New to the fourm and I have a question about the V6 Tranny. My ride is a 98 CL 3.0 with 92,000 miles. The tranny shifts hard into 2nd and likes to jump when it shifts too. It really only does it from 1st to 2nd and a small hard shift into 3rd sometimes. I have read about the issues these V6 trannys have had.
I would like to repair the tranny cause the car has so few miles on her. I did have the tranny fluid changed and there was no change to how she shifted. Would any of you recommend that i replace the tranny or take it to the dealer and have them tear it apart. It kills me to take it to a dealer cause i would much rather work on it myself but i simply dont have the space to do it. Shes a stunning car just needs some help in the tranny department. Any suggestions would be awesome.

I'd suggest sourcing a local reputable tranny repair shop and having it rebuilt. If you decide to go through the dealer, expect to pay around $3500 for a replacement tranny (aka as much as the car is worth). Much more cost effective to go through an independent tranny shop and have your existing one rebuilt with warranty. Do your research though...not all tranny shops are created equal.
Have your car checked out by a transmission shop.
Most shops should at least look at your car at no cost.
Where abouts do you live?
Sounds like a physical problem, im having a very hard shifting problem, i have to drive in gear 2 and leave it there never drive more than 60 km/h rpms like 4-5K
Well its not uncommon for a cl with ur mileage to develop this kind of symptom, sorry to say, but iv accepted that fact that i have to figure out a solution for my car hahah

im in Virginia beach, its been like this for awhile and it hasnt gotten worse. I drive in D3 for in town driving and D4 for the highway. seems to work the best for me. Again tho it hasnt gotten worse. i just want to fix it.
I brought my car into a tranny shop, they were very honest.
i had my Linear pressure solenoid replaced because the one that was in my car had silicone sealing up where it was "fixed."
I dont know what they were doing but it was faulty and causing the very hard shifting because no fluid was flowing and there was very high pressure.
the car runs like it did before these problems.
I have another question, When u are at a complete stop and you then put the car into gear 2 (manual gear) for an automatic transmission 3L, does the car jerk a bit like its almost double activating a gear or something like it takes a slight second and then it roughs it into 2nd gear. This does not affect the car when its driving in D3 or D4.

I wonder if thats the same thing wrong with mine. Do you mind if i ask how much that repair is costing you?
As for putting the car into any gear when stopped, the car does not jerk forward or hesitate to drive forward. When I put her into D4 and do in town driving the car shifts ALOT harder and jumps and jerks when it shifts gears. When i drive D3 for in town driving it just jerks when shifting into 2nd. When its real cold it does a slight jerk into 3rd. When the weather is warm the car doesnt shift as hard.
