Exclamation Trunk Leakage

So the other day I opened my trunk after it had been raining and found that the carpet just below the jack holder was wet. I pulled up the carpet to find some puddles of water.

I then discovered the drivers side of the trunk was also a little wet but not much.
After a bit of investigating what could be leaking I discovered that on the passenger side water is leaking through the tail light. Tonight I took the tail light out, and tried to reseal some of the gaskets. While I was doing this I discovered the nuts holding the tail light in were only hand tightened, so I tightened them up, and hopefully that will help out also. What I think is happening is water is running down the trunk, on the outside of the weather stripping, and then coming in through the top of the tail light (as seen in the first pic below).

Hopefully this will solve the leaking on the passenger side, but I am still not sure what is leaking on the drivers side. Could the water be coming through this vent thing? What is that for anyway?

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

your weather seal could be bad. It's only rubber, and rubber loses it's elasticisty after a while, so you might wanna take a look at it.
