Ticking/tapping sound in engine bay

I've been hearing a ticking/tapping noise coming from the engine recently. It sounds like it's coming form the side of the belts, and near the back of the engine bay.

The sound matches the rpm of the engine, meaning if I rev it the ticking noise speeds up.

also, it almost sounds like it's coming from inside the rear head, but it's kind of hard to pinpoint.

any ideas?

i have the same problem i believe.. when i accelerate only, the ticking begins.. and the harder the rpm's the louder and faster it ticks. it seems like its coming from right between the engine and like dashboard or something..

same situation?

belts, tensioner pulley, water pump pulley, etc on that side can make a ticking noise. How many miles do you have on it?

/\ i was gonna say, a pulley can cause a ticking sounds, usually its an idler pulley/tensioner pulley causing this. have the belts been changed or touched recently, also do they whin at all?

I haven't changed the belts in probably a couple years. Not since I installed the UR crank pully.

There has been a slight whine for about 6 months now, but the ticking only started about a month or so ago.

edit: I have about 86k miles on it right now.

also I swapped out the alternator a couple weeks ago when it died. but the ticking and whining happened both before and after the swap.

which belts should I be looking at? Could it be the timing belt also?

this sounds more like an exhaust leak near the rear headers than my sound. I had an exhaust leak before and this sounds different.

timing belt sounds like the culprit, mine was ticking, then replaced it along with the water pump and tensioner pulley, did the trick.

Just got my timing belt, water pump and timing belt tensioner replaced. Problem is solved. Only down side is it cost $900 since I didn't feel like doing it myself in this cold ass weather.
