Ticking coming from engine.

I changed my timing belt sometime in late August this year. And ever since i have had this really loud ticking noise. I thought it could have been my valves but i adjusted them ... now i think it could be the front balance shaft. has anyone ever heard of this happening. also the balance shafts just help w/ vibration right so this won't hurt my motor will it??

Unlikely to be the balance shaft. All you did here was replace the timing and balance shaft timing belts?

Did you replace the tensioner assy? A bad tensioner bearing can cause noise.

Did you properly tension the belt after installation and verify timing marks were aligned? A loose timing belt can cause noise and may jump timing, leading to valve damage. You might open up the timing belt cover and check everything.

good luck

See I checked my valves and readjusted them... they werent off to begin with. But the ticking seems to be coming from the front of the engine not the valves. The belt could be tensioned too tight though.. because it does humm..... but i'm not sure if the humming is the alternator belt or the timing belt!!! So could the belt tensioned too tight cause a ticking and humming sound??? and no i didnt replace the tensioner assembly.

Remove the alternator belt and see if noise goes away. This will help isolate noise source.

You can retension the timing belt w/o removing the lower TB cover. Follow manual procedure after aligning to TDC and loosening the tensioner lock nut.

good luck

You have to remove valve cover and upper timing belt cover (upper TB cover is trapped by valve cover). Turn TB w/ crankshaft bolt to inspect entire TB.

good luck
