Question Temp guage

Hi everyone,

I noticed that when i'm stopped for a while or in traffic, my temperature guage goes to 1/2 or a little above, but never all the way to hot, and a few seconds later will drop back to normal sometimes when i'm stopped but especially when i accelerate. I checked the coolant level the other day and it was low so i filled it to the right level. I drove the car today and noticed the temp guage go to half again while i was stopped and when i accelerated the temp went back to normal. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Radiator, thermostat, hose leak, hose clog, possibly gaskets, could be anything. I'd bet on the radiator/thermostat though.

That's what i thought it might be. I used to have this problem on my old integra but it was always the coolant level. i'll check the coolant level in the daytime and if it's cool i'll check the radiator thermostat.

Yeah, always start easiest and cheapest first. If theres a bright green predator blood puddle under your car in the morning, thats a start

T-stats are common things to go on this car. It's an easy fix. Check for leaks and stuff first. Also check your fans - turn the AC on and let the car idle. Both fans should turn on as the temp goes up.

i checked the for leaks and there were none. the fans do turn on w/ the AC but not when the AC is off. the coolant level hasn't gone down since i refilled it. so it probably is the thermostat. i also noticed that the temp slightly goes up when i'm going up a hill or high driveway.

When temp gauge rises at stop/idle, the fans should be engaging. If not, thermoswitch A which causes fans to come on has failed and should be replaced. Thermoswitch A is on the thermostat housing on 2.2CL.

good luck
