Suspension Rattle Noboby Can Seem to Find
Suspension Rattle Noboby Can Seem to Find
I purchaced a used 01 CL-S about a year ago for $9,900 thinking I got a great deal but within the last year I've had $3,000 in repairs, not mods but REPAIRS!!!! To tell you the truth I'm wondering whether or not it's been worth it.
I had a bunch of standard stuff to fix/replace like belts, water pump, spark plugs, filters (engine and cabin), brakes, rotors (not quite as standard), tires, alignement etc. I also had the airbag light come on but it just needed a new sensor (like $300 right there!)
The thing that has really driven me crazy is a noise that I didn't even notice before I drove the car. After a couple of months I noticed a rattle when I went over bumpy road. I first thought that the latch for the hood might be loose or something as it was a big dull thuddy rattle. I took it into Acura and they told me the engine mounts needed to be replaced. Freakin acura engine mounts are always going bad so I paid the $400 for the fix and noticed on the drive home that I still had the same noise. Then they said it was the struts but I took it to a local mechanic shop where I've taken my car to for little stuff for years to get a second opinion because Acuras first diognosis was clearly wrong. He said it was the struts and that he could fix it. $800 later I had new struts/towers and sway bar links. As I drove away I still heard the noise. I took it back to Acura and they still said it was the struts even after I explained that I just had them replaced, but of course since I did it somewhere else (maybe my mistake) they won't help me. They just said that it's either the struts or the ball joints but that the ball joints look fine. Yesterday I took it back to my mechanic and he said everything looks ok, he can't figure out what the problem is.
I know that was long, I just had to let it all out, I have generally loved Acuras (my family has an RL, two TLs, my CL, a legend, and I guess the civic and element are part of the extended family as well, the element being the cousin that you pretend you don't know) but I can't beleive the problems I've had.
So any ideas on the noise in the suspension?
