Starter Relay Location
Hi. Does anybody know where the starter relay is located on a 1997 Acura Cl 2.2.
I had the starter tested and it works fine but there is no click when i try to start it up and i think the starter relay went. Much appreciated.

If you mean the starter solenoid (a special type of relay), it is on the starter and may not be available as a separate part from the starter. Check Acura and parts houses. I would check the blk/yel wire to the starter for power to be sure that keyswitch is not the problem.

First my problem is that my 97 cl 2.2 doesn't start anymore.
Electrical parts (keyless entry/radio/lights) work. Battery tested fine, starter tested fine. I know the older honda's have a relay switch, but i don't know if this car has one or if it's built into the solenoid of the starter. There is no click when you try to start the car. If the relay is in the starter the starter isn't getting power and the problem lies btw. the ignition switch and starter. If it has a starter relay somewhere else, the relay has gone bad. So do you know if the relay is in the starter solenoid because i don't want to take the ignition apart if there is a starter relay somewhere else along the way. Thanks.

If you have a manual trans, there is a starter relay in the under-dash fuse box. The clutch interlock switch could also disable starting. It's near the top of the clutch pedal arm.
If you have an auto (this info and model should be added to your signature line), the AT gear position switch in the console can disable starting.
In both cases, have you checked the small blk/wht wire to the starter solenoid to confirm no power is being sent to starter. If yes, then above items need to be checked to find your fault.
I would suggest downloading the 94-97 Accord shop manual from hondahookup.com. The 2.2L Accord is very similar (engine is identical) and wiring systems are identical. This will provide circuit diagram and diagnostics.
good luck

i'm going to go ahead and bump this.
i parked my car today after a long hot day of driving, and it's started up every time for 3 years no problems. then today it won't start on the first crank once (no starter noise at all), then on the second crank it fires up like usual. i drive, park, come back to it 15 minutes later, and it won't start at all. so now it's stranded in a parking lot until i tow it home, unless i can figure out what happened.
rock auto lists a starter relay for a '97 3.0CL automatic. this is not a made up part. where is it on the vehicle? thanks.

I have noticed my key is starting to go bad (at least i think it is the key). I can get in and everything works but will not start like the chip in the key is not communicating with the computer to tell it its the correct key (on GM cars its called VATS). I can turn the switch to crank it and nothing and I can do that a few times then it will crank. The 97 doesn't have the security light the 98-99 does so that doesn't illuminate but I remember my camaro doing the same thing but that key has the black resistant chip on the out side of the key instead of in the head of the key like the acura does. you may want to see if this is the problem you are having

I know there was a recall for the switch on these first gen CL's so it may be the switch going out instead of the key. I just know it was the Vehicle Anti Theft System (VATS) on the camaro because the contacts get dirty and doesn't read the key any longer on the chip on the key. I took the switch apart as I was restoring it and cleaned it and it now works every time. But my guess is its either the key or the switch
