rubber fender trim
After I had the wheel rust repaired on my fenders and quarters I threw away the rubber trim.I was talking with a body shop guy and he said to cram the molding with grease (axle or wheel, can't remember) and put back on.It will actually help slow down the rust coming back. What are the trims called?I have searched the internet trying to find them but not sure what serach term would be best.I've tried "fender trim/molding","wheel well trim/molding".Is there a part number for it?
I know most will say to leave it off.I respect your opinion but would still like help in tracking this molding down.
Thanks.

Great thread...but I'm wondering if you're referring to the dealer installed optional 'fender trim' that goes over the actual fender lip, such as so:

or the stuff that goes over the fender lip 'underneath' and isn't visible. I'm actually looking for that same trim as pictured, as I kinda messed up my fender roll/pull and wanted to cover it up...and I think that rubber stuff would blend well with the black paint. Please let me know if you find it and where at...I asked my local acura stealership and they looked at me like I was speaking french.

no my 97 had it. if hes referring to what i think he is only the rear fenders had it, when i got my rot fixed they told me not to put it back on because it only servs to trap moisture against the paint, which made sense to me.

There is steel in the rubber pieces. That steel rusts and then the body rusts.A body shop guy said that once there's rust, there will always be the good chance it will come back.By cramming the rubber piece with wheel/axle grease and putting it back on the car you will be preventing moisture from getting back in there.I looked at my old pieces which I had removed. You can see where they bubbled up from rust.I'm getting new ones,$26 here in Canada from dealer, putting the grease in and putting them back on.I had my rust repaired about 7 years ago and it's bubbling up again. He said by doing this procedure I can go another 2 years before needing it fixed. He talked me out of giving him business.
