RPM Problems: Dropping

Car: 1997 3.0 CL(Auto Tranny)
Mileage: 145,000(take good care of it though)
Clean Air Filter

Problem: The car starts just fine but the problem is(has been happening a lot)

when I put the gear on "D". The RPM drops below 500 and sometimes it hovers

around 250-300 RPM. Furthermore, at times it almost bottoms out close to 0 RPM.

Scary! I start hearing mechanical noises.I have to rev it up to keep a decent RPM

when idling @ traffic stops. Sometimes, even though I have been driving over

30mins and I hit traffic(especially by the Oak-SF maze) the RPM drops close to

zero. I have taken the car to Oakland Acura but the freakin' car acted normal.

WTF! Any advise? Bad spark plugs?

Im getting the plugs and wires changed this weekend. I bought them online @ sparkplugs.com for $11.71 a piece(6 total), NGK Double Platinum. Its a better deal than buying at the dealer, $19 a piece. and then the wire set was around $45.

I guess I'll stop by the dealer this week and buy the idle control valve($120). Bill at Oakland Acura said he has sold a few of these this month(and my repairguy in San Fran said it's quite common to this car). Well, too bad there's no recall for it. Its just time to replace it.

rpm level

Let me know what you find out about that rpm thing. My check engine light is on and the mechanic is saying it is the egr causing the light to come on. I just wonder if it would also effect the rpm. Or does it just need a new set of plugs. Thanks for your time.
P.S. I also have 144000 miles.
She is a silver/puple (Primrose MisT) 98 3.0 Gold Pack. What about yours.
