hello world i have a problem when i first bought my 98 acura cl i notcie something that the perivious owner did not tell me when i called and ask her she did not know the problem is the night i got my car and i was at the light leaving from buying the car i thought about flooring it and when the light turn green i did so rpm went up and wont let me pass 4,000 rpm i mean i could do 100+ mph but i have to stay under 4,000 rpm when i floor it jerks back and forward not letting me speed anywords?

 

any check engine lights? it might be in limp mode.

 

limp mode or overdrive but i dont think that car has overdrive.

 

o/d is D4, but even so o/d turns off if you floor it.

 

yeah. so id say limp mode for my best guess, but if you cant figure it out on your own just take it to the shop. NOT THE DEALER.

 

yeah its got a check engine light alright i took the car around and alot of people said differnt things like one guy at auto zone said it was vtec selinoide and another guy said its not the vtec selinoide its the t.p.s sensor and another guy that owns a shop said it was a map sensor but then i try changing that and it still has the same problem now heres something i did not tell you guys at first when i first start the car "whenever that is" and when i do and right when i start it and rev it it goes up to 5,000 rpm but when i let it go and rev it agn it goes back to 4,000 any idea?

 

did you happen to get the cel code number from them? autozone usually doesnt lie about their codes. if its the vtec solenoid then that would explain why you cant rev past or into vtec.

 

ok say it was the vtec selinoide is that going to be expensive to replace

 

i'd honestly go back to autozone, get the code number. then they'll show you how much it'll cost for the part.

 

also check your oil pressure to make sure its not low.

 

they said that they did not carry the vtec selionoide in autozone but this guy at a shop say he got one and he well install it for 50 thats with the part and what about the air thing?

 

the tps wouldnt really limit your rpm, but it will give you a bad idle.

 

ok ima try and break it down agn whenever i First start the car right then Ill rev it up it would rev up to 5,000 rpm but then after I let it go and rev up again it would go back to revving up at 4,000 rpm or when I start the car wait for a about 30 seconds then rev the car it well only rev at 4,000 what’s with the 5,000 rpm when I first start the car and rev it right away?
