Random Stall

Hello Acurazine

I have had my new CL for a month or two now (still need to post pics) and so far everything has been working just as well as my last one... until recently.

A few weeks back, i was casually driving when all of a sudden i go to take a turn and i have no power steering. So im like "wtf", and it says my RPMs are at zero. So as i coast through the turn, i turn my car back on, and drive off. I didnt really think too much of it until today, when it happened again. I was coasting (neutral) down a hill to go to the bank (i was going 30ish in both situations). I go to take the turn to leave campus, and the steering wheel was very hard to turn. My car turned off again. So mid turn i started it back up, put it in gear, and drove off.

So here i am, not knowing what the hell happened or why. If anyone has experienced this before, please let me know whats up before i get in an accident!

The car only dies after you start to turn?

im not sure if it does it before, after, or during. I only notice the car is off when there is no power steering.

Strange... sounds electrical. If you're not getting a CEL (which I assume you're not since you didn't mention it) I'm stumped.

exactly, no cel, no problems what-so-ever. If this didnt happen, the car would be flawless. Any place i should check?

You could call a couple shop or an acura dealership and see if they have any ideas off the top of their heads.

I would get under my hood and look for any exposed wiring etc to see if something has the possibility of shorting etc.

could be when you are turning the powesteering pump is engaged and using more power that's why its turning off.

Maybe your alternator is bad and can't hold up to the strain of when your turning.

So your car is running strong? Just when turning it turns off?

Oh and with that recall try it dude. Call them before you go in.

im pretty concinved that its the ignition switch. The stalling has only happened twice in a 1000 mile period, and i do a lot of city driving. I doubt that turning the steering wheel is the issue, that is because i only notice that the car has stalled once i go to brake and make a turn. I just need to make an appointment for the recall. Ill make an update once it gets repaired.

Hi there,

i'm having a similar problem as well with my 97 cl 3.0. My charging/battery indicator came on, eventually my car would not start at all, it ended up being my alternator.

I had it rebuilt with new parts, and the charging/battery indicator no longer came on, car has been running fine. Except yesterday luckily i was down a quiet side street i was driving and started to slow down where the stop sign was, and the car completely shut off, power and everything, no signs or errors on the dashboard before this happened either.

So i put the car in park, turned the key back and then on again, the electronics came back on, nothing was reset (clock, radio, ect), car turned on perfectly and i drove it back home.

I just had the alternator put back in, all wires seemed fine and nothing bad when it was put back in, and the charging system must be working now. I also charged the battery to 100% before driving the car again after the alternator was re-installed.

All i'm saying is lucky i was on a side street, with no-one behind me. Any idea's what could cause the power and engine to shut right off, then the car starts no problems after??

My best bet is that the ignition switch is failing like most cases. I had random stalls at stop signs, on the highway and just at times really unexpected. So I went and bought an Ignition Switch at the Honda Dealer, which looks like this: http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/ac...331427826.html
Or look here: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/jsp/catdisplay.jsp
And find the part number for the ignition switch and there should be the same one for a Honda which wil be cheaper than buying Acura.

Good luck.
