Power Steering??

did my power steering just crap out??
its making that "whining" sound when turning left or right.(like rubbing a wet ballon)..
i think it started as a small leak and now that its colder out if finally crapped out..(not positive but i think so)

curious...

also is it really dangerous to drive with it bad or empty??
i will have it fixed but just cant do it this week...

thanx

sounds like the power steering did go out, sorry. I've driven a car w/o pwr steering working, but it's not exactly fun nor that safe. If you have to make a quick movement your not going to make it happen.

this is it, it's on the left side for 3.0. But look for a plastic cylinder with a red cap on top.

if anything, its just low fluid. i know im way late on this post, but if u had a leak, stop the leak. low fluid in the resevoir will make that whining sound when turning the wheel! also, make sure the fluid aint all nasty and black, thats never any good and will kill the pump pretty quick!

I had this same problem on my old CL; if fluid is normal then pump is probably bad. If its low or leaking try checking the Cooler up front behind the bumper.. you know; the loopy thing. There's a couple of rubber hoses there that deteriorate over time and can cause a major leak.
