Overheating at long idle...
Overheating at long idle...
Hey guys, here's the deal:
I'm overheating if i'm stuck in traffic or the drive-through. It clears up once I get going again.
I've searched everything on this site and gone through pretty much everything that has been suggested from air in the system, to relays, fans, thermostats (oem vs. generic), etc...
When my mechanic took the rad cap off, there was no pressure released and even when trying to bleed the system he had to squeeze the hose to get fluid to flow through the valve...so he performed a compression test on the cooling system and said that there has to be a slow leak somewhere...just need to diagnose it...as there are absolutely no visible signs of coolant leaking anywhere...
So...I don't have any white smoke coming out, my oil doesn't look like choco milk and I just had an e-test done a month ago and the numbers were pretty much near perfect...so I don't think that there are head gasket issues....but....i'm kinda stumped as to what else it could be...
Any thoughts out there???

I'm guessing either a slow leak in the radiator, or a malfunctioning water pump or thermostat. The last time my car did something like that, i had a slow radiator leak. if he pressurized the system and the leak wasn't prevalent, as in you couldn't see coolant escaping from somewhere, I'd start to look internal like water pump/thermostat. Redo the pressure test and look closely, I almost missed my last one because i had the skid shield on the bottom of the car and it was catching the leaking coolant from the crease in the radiator. If still nothing, work from there.
I have the exact same problem just started a few days ago.. so i havent had a chance to take it to a shop yet.. let me know when you figure out where it is leaking from bc it might be the same as mine.. I have the 3.0 with about 150k..
