Oil Leak

My girlfriend’s 97 2.2 CL has an oil leak. I didn't use a Honda oil filter just a regular one from AutoZone. Is this more than likely the problem? I checked the crush washer on the oil pan and it definitely was not leaking. Besides it looks like the oil is somehow running and dripping off of the transmission. I checked the oil on the ground and it is definitely engine oil and not transmission fluid. Any possible causes. I just changed the oil almost two weeks ago and it is almost out of oil.

check for a hole in the oil pan, may not be that big, but i could do it. Also, check all the oil lines, one could be loose or have a crack in it.

good luck

Check around valve cover. Check around Vtec solenoid valve.

Check around distributor base. The distributor shaft oring can crack and leak a substantial amount of oil.

Check the oil pressure sender unit on the back side of the engine. These have been known to leak badly.

good luck

Sounds like the Rear Main Seal, since it's leaking from the where the tranny and block meet.

Oil leaks can be very difficult to trace. Where the oil drips off the engine can be a indicator, or not.

It helps to clean the engine carefully and then watch closely for the leak. More high tech is to add a UV dye to the oil and use a black light to trace the leak.

good luck
