OBD FAIL during SMOG TEST

OBD FAIL during SMOG TEST
OBD can't be read and has not reset after battery disconnect done while replacing Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (P0116). Still not reset after 6 days and 100 miles of in-town not highway driving. Do I need to drive the car through drive cycles or reset the ECU? Any current information will help. Thank you to all at this forum and Acurazine. (1997 3.0 CL 151K miles)
