No Gauge Lights/Tail Lights in 98 CL (never found a solid answer)

What's up everybody...
first post here..

I've found a few solutions on this site and want to say thanks first off..

i just got a 98 cl and fixed a few problems already but I cant seem to figure out what's up with the tail lights/gauge/visor combo... it seemed to fix it's self last week after i put the interior back in after cleaning everything... i just put a cd player in it today and they went out again.. the car came w/no radio, i didnt see any loose wires, just the two harnesses. I do know that the cluster was replaced because the odom stopped working, could the short be the connection for that? or would it be in the tail lights? any help would be appreciated.

I know on older cars the dash lights were on the same fuse as the tail lights. I am guessing so people would see their dash lights werent working and that would get them to check to see what the problem is, because if just their tail lights went out they would never know unless someone was behind them and told them about it. There could be something causing a short in the cluster causing it but it is almost impossible to tell you where the short is at without just testing things to see what has power and what doesn't

I'm gonna bump up this old dead thread, because I am having the same problem with my car. I have found out though that the "Small Light" fuse (which is the fuse that controls these lights) will blow IMMEDIATELY when the key is turned on. I have googled this issue and found this is a fairly common concern, but I have not found one answer to the problem. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

faulty wiring is the usual suspect. most times when people put in sterios or fog lights the splice and shit, they make a hell of a mess. if this doesnt apply to you i would try undoing and cleaning all connections with cleaner and a wire brush.

I would check my orange illumination wire on deck if you arent using it tape it up. If it touches anything metal it will short out you lights or blow a fuse. I had the problem once it melted all my wires in cluster under dash.
