N00b brake/stop light access question - 1998 2.3 CL

1998 Acura 2.3 CL. My left rear corner brake light is dead. I’ve replaced various bulbs on different cars before but am having trouble with this one. I looked up and got the right bulb size (using the Search function), popped the trunk, removed the plastic cover from the corner, but… it seems like the bulbs I can easily access are all working and are apparently regular tail/other marker lights--or there's some other electrical issue. Does that sound right… and could the actual brake/stop bulb be deeper back there? Any idea if I have to remove part of the light assembly to gain access and, uh… how to do that?

Thanks for the reply. The middle one definitely seems closest to the right area, but I got confused when I pulled out that socket and the existing bulb came on when I just turned on the regular lights. Is it possible it’s that bulb and it’s just failing to get brighter when the brake is pressed, or is it definitely a dedicated bulb that is apparently somewhere else and would be completely dead? I found 2057 when looking up the bulb part# here and some parts sites, but I am obviously having some trouble figuring this out.

You are right, the bulb you are looking for is a 2057. basically, these bulbs have two filaments, one turns on for tail lights, and both would turn on when braking. Just replace the one you are having problems with and you will be all set.and also, don't go looking deeper for another separate bulb for braking coz you won't find any. Good luck.

Ah, thanks wigglesworth, that explains it. With the car off, I just had my wife press the brake, took out and saw which bulb lit up on the right, and replaced that one on the left (which I probably should have done in the first place). Turns out it was actually the top one.
