My 97 3.0 CL Wont hold Idol
Help, I removed and replaced my neg cable to my battery to add my radio code back in and now to start the car I need to hold down the accelerator. When I let off the accelerator the engine will die. I wont and cant drive it like this. Recently my transmission was re-built a day before this happened and all was good. What could I check before towing it back to the transmission shop? The check engine light is not on.
Car has 235k on it now. Thanks for any suggestions!

This is happening to me now also rebuilt my transmition and everything was fine till 2 weeks ago...this happens every so often i go turn on my car and it will start it wont idle and just turn off now it doesnt happen every day but it happens every so often and the only way to get passed it is if i hit the accel for a bit then it will be fine what do you think is wrong?????
I had the same problem as well, but in the last month it hasn't done it. Instead of spending the money and trying to find what it is, the mechanic said try to prime the engine first before starting. Turn the key on, but not start the car. Do it a few times and then on the 4th or 5th try actually start ur engine. See if that works. Its worked for me so far..knock on wood..but a frend of mine has a 98 CL and his is having the same problem as well and it seems that when you prime the engine first, it starts better. Try it. let me know how it goes
could be the idle control valve
it's located on the throttle body.

Probably a good idea to clean out your tb with some carb cleaner while it's off as well

i wouldn't do any of that. First thing to try is simple. Your computer hold all the info so even when your car is off it has a tiny draw but if it completely loses power then it loses all info. so you engine just has to re-learn its idle (happened to me yesterday with a jeep in the shop, scared the crap out of the owner when he started it up lol) but try just getting it running at 35mph for domestic i figure about the same with imports so take it out and open it up ( i have that engine won't take you long to get to that speed) and hold it for a little if possible. If that don't work then limit it down to replacements but this a quick easy and free test.
