Exclamation Moonroof will not close.

Need help. My 97 2.2CL moonroof will not completely seat or slide open. It seems someone was trying to break into the car and pried open the moonroof. The back side will not seat into the opening and it will only tilt up with the power button. Also the sunshade is "stuck" half way, it will not move in either direction. Any thoughts on how to self repair?

On a 2nd gen there's a manual close screw near the top of the rear window covered by a plastic plug.(on headliner) Not sure on a 1st gen. Since it's a 1st gen I'm moving it to that forum.

Good luck

there is indeed a manual crank for the moonroof on our 1st gens, if youre in the back seats, you look at the top of the roof lining there should be a piece with basically a big long flathead screwdriver slot, get that off however you feel like it, and theres gonna be a wrench with your spare tire kit, a small one, use that on the crank inside and start twisting it closed

*EDIT* I cant make any promises that this will work simply because I dont know the extent of how bad the would be theives fucked it up

I see it!!!. The small wrench you referred to is probably what the service manual calls the "moonroof wrench". I dont have one. Any idea what size socket that is?

I've tried all of the usual suspects, 1/2, 7/16, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm. 12mm is to large and 11 mm to small. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Duh! Its tough to get old. I see now that its a hex nut. And it works, somewhat. I can crank it down further then it has gone but not all the way. MUCH BETTER then before. I can live with this until I can have it repaired. Thanks
