Lights on chime
Lights on chime
I own a 1998 3.0 CL that recently started having the problem of the "lights on warning chime" sounding when I open the drivers door whether the lights are on or OFF.
Has anyone had this problem and know of a fix?
I have a Chilton's Acura paperback manual and a downloaded CL service manual but neither has enough schematic detail to show where the sensor for this circuit is located. I'm not sure if the HELMINC.com electrical manual would be any better than what I already have, especially for $40.
Any suggestions?
Thank you, Dale

sounds like your ignition cylinder is worn, and needs to be replaced
and more then likely it is not for the lights, but the key still being in the ignition turned off (even though it is not), with the door open, it's the same chime btw

In my Acura the key in the ignition warning sound and the lights on chime are different.
The lights on chime is an alternating ding dong sound, a key in the ignition warning sound is a repeating 4 quick chirps with a pause between.
The key in the ignition warning over rides the lights on chime so only the key in the ignition warning is heard, until the key is removed.

really only thing that "cuts" the power to the chime then is the head light switch
, might be some how cross feeding just enough power to power that chime up
. but not activate the relay for the running light circuit (since that is the first detent on the switch, and stays powered up with the headlights on)btw for the actual sensor, i think it is in the BCM/fuse block (i think normally called the multiplex control module) on the driver side kick panel
