Key problems anyone?
Key problems anyone?
I bought my 99 3.0 (122k miles) about a month ago and the car only came with one key. Figuring i'd lose it in no time, i went to wal-mart had had a few coppies made. of course, none of them worked. Tried the same thing at Lowes, and again none of the copies worked. Perhapse i should mention that the keys do turn in the ignition, but only turn on the accessories, and will not crank the engine. Do these people just not know how to cut keys..? or am i missing somthing?

they are pats keys you need.. they have a chip in them that the computer recognizes. you can get them from ebizzle for ~15$ each. dealership wants ~40$ + programming. most locksmiths can do the programming. the keys you got from walmart or whatever will no work. only a chipped key will. however they are good for gettin yourself backinto the car if you lock your og keys in it.
The newer model Hondas and Acura have a chip called transponder in the key, that only comes in specific blank keys. They also need to be programed in order to work. Acura will program and cut the key for free because no one else would do it. These transponder keys can usually be found on ebay for cheap and they are high quality. Hope this helps...
