Hood won't close all the way

After changing my oil today, I went to close my hood, and found no matter what I did or how hard I slammed it, it wouldn't latch all the way.

The hood grabs that initial latch that requires you to use your hand to release it, but not the full latch. I tested the latch and it works fine. It appears that the metal piece on the hood that latches onto the body has a little bit of scrapes on the bottom of it.

Any ideas? Anyone have this problem before? Thanks!

My friend's '99 Accord got like this from someone tapping him in the back... he went to a shop with me and the guy there just unscrewed the metal piece that is attached to the car... He raised it up somehow so that the trunk latch can get all the way there...

it was free...

Take to a local shop

iiiiiinteresting. because the guy i bought it from, the original owner, said it was never in an accident, yet the gas flap was dinged from the body moving and there was a few dings in the rear bumper. this removes all doubt.

i'll try and see if i can adjust it myself. thanks!

update: i didn't see much room for adjustment outside of getting a whole new spring.

instead, i coated the entire spring/latch system with WD-40, then used a screwdriver to manually close the latch (be careful! springs are strong), then applied more WD-40. after that, hood closes fine!

A more permanent lubricant than WD0 is needed to prevent problem again. I use white grease or Lubriplate.

good luck
