Hood won't close all the way

A few weeks ago I had to jump start some cute girls in a parking lot, after trying to close my hood, i noticed it was being a huge pain to get closed all the way. It would hit the safety latch, but not go down all the way. I finally got it down.

Last night after changing my oil, same thing happened. Only this time it won't close all the way. My safety latch grabs so I can still drive but it looks dumb with my hood halfway opened.

I tried inspecting the latching mechanism and it seems to be working fine and coated it with WD40 just to make sure. Does anyone know if this is a common problem? Or if there's a way to solve this or maybe adjust the locking mechanism? Thanks!!!

if the latch is bent, it may not be closing properly.

also, check that nothing is keeping it from closing, ie all caps are tight and no lines are in the way.

just a follow up, i removed that black piece of plastic surrounding the front of the engine bay to see if anything was blocking it. messed around a bit with the hood release cable moving it and put everything back on and it worked fine! thanks for the help though!
