so im new at this buttt
yesterday my friend just finished installing a new radiator in my car because mine was done.
put the thermostat and hoses and everything on and went to go drive it and when i put my car in neutral (5spd 97 acura CL) it wouldnt drop passed 2rpms?
is my egr valve messed up too?
someone help me

should i just like leave it running for a little since it is a new thermostat and radiator?
i got no idea but i wasnt about to pay 750 dollars to get it put in when my friend built his whole engine by himself and knew how to put this in
or do u think its a egr problem?

i dont think its an egr problem, unless its giving a check engine light for that problem (and i dont think thats a common problem on the 4cyls compared to the 6s)
if you ever start a car on a cold winter day, the engine at idle revs higher than normal (plus 1k, sometimes as much as 2k if its REALLY cold). what im getting at here is that your cars computer may be thinking its really cold. How does it tell? the thermostat. i dont know if its a bad thermostat of if its not plugged in, but your best bet would be to start there. make sure that theres enough fluid too because if the fluids not touching the thermostat, it wont get a good enough reading, therefore making your car think its cold.

I second the thermostat. Did you bleed the system after? Is the tstat in the right way?
Might want to get it fixed before things turn ugly. And plus the fans in front of the radiator only turn on when its REALLY hot, they won't ever continuously run.

well i just tried to put more antifreeze in and it helped it a little by making it now rev at 1250 rpms and 1500 rmps
but that still isnt drivable is it??
and there was really only one way the thermostat could go in lol

im not familiar with how the entire system works, but if you can, check and see if the thermostat:
1) works (maybe a multimeter to test current)
2) that the thermostat is actually submerged in fluid. i wouldnt recommend doing this while its on or hot, but maybe start it up, let it run for 15 minutes, cool it down, then see if its wet or something...
is it a new thermostat? try everything you can on the thermostat and make sure you are completely full of fluid. good luck

its a new thermostat and well here i got some pics and some questions if anyone can help!!
if you need to make the pictures bigger just click on them

what is that bolt thing and is a hose or somethings suppose to be attached...it keeps pouring out antifreeze like crazy

also this metal thing with a hose attached to the end is just sitting there not attached to anything on either sides just at the bottom leading behind the thermostat area? what is that hose and is it suppose to go somewhere?
last this is what my rpms look like when in idle

Honestly, i cannot tell. On my car, that bolt thing has nothing on it, but there is a hose connecting to an outlet right next to it (more towards the drivers side). It may be different on my 2.3 compared to your 2.2. On my car, there are 2 hoses in that area. One runs from the valve cover to the air intake. The other hose runs from the spot NEXT to that "bolt thing" down to the lower intake manifold. These two small hoses are connected to one another by either a weld or some adhesive, but they do not join and go to the same place. On my car, those are the only hoses located in that area. The one you want to look out for should connect to the lower intake manifold and run to a little hole located near that bolt thing. That hose is also the only one in that area that goes to the radiator (i think it goes to the lower radiator hose). Anyway, see what you can do, good luck
Lol.... The thermostat is not electrical in anyway. It is not a sensor, it is a simple device that opens and closes depending on the temperature of the coolant.I think you are thinking about the coolant temperature sensor.
That "bolt thing" is the bleeder valve, used to bleed the cooling system of air. You must tighten it to keep coolant from coming out. Your car is idling high because you have a vacuum leak. That disconnected hose is almost certainly the culprit. Find its home and plug it back in.

hmm lemme go look at my engine real quick, but it looks in the same area as the fitv and there is alot of coolant that runs thru the fitv, and will idle high when it is about to break and it starts to rev up and down when it is broken.
its really hard to tell from your pics, but i think you did your intake wrong.
the one metal one thats missing a rubber attachment goes to the intake. i cant tell what the bigger opening pipe is. can you possible get video of the pipes and not so close that you cant tell what it is?
