Help! 1997 acura cl 3.0
hey guys i was wondering if u could help me out, i have a problem. i replaced my alternator and battery about a month ago because it broke, and died on me.the guy at the place were i got my new alt from told me it died because of my system i have in the car. (2 12' alpine type r powered from a 2 channel mosfet 1200 watt amp). and now I'm having the same problem, my battery light flickers, and when the deep bass hits, my car seems to loose a little power when i accelerate. i had some friends tell me to get a compassitor. i dont want to take it to a car audio place because there going to charge me 100 bucks to look at the car and tell me whats wrong with it (not includin labor) so if u guys can help i would really appriciate it.

a capacitor does a band-aid job that a good alternator and battery do. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A CAPACITOR. ITS JUNK. An optima yellow top does the job x10. if you go watch the big boys bass out they dont use multiple capacitors they use multiple batteries and alternators. your mechanic is correct that the system killed the alternator. your battery doesnt have enough juice to power the system and every time your system is hitting it drains the battery all the way down then it goes to the alternator for power. then you get a system that needs to power a dying battery and a 1200 watt system. im running 3400 RMS in my car and dont have a single capacitor and my lights dont dim at all. I have 3 optima batteries. 1 under hood 2 in the trunk. charge them once a month and ive had ZERO power issues after 2 years. a capacitor needs to be charged also but guess what charges the capacitor after it dies........the battery, but if the battery gets drained quickly which it will trying to power your system and your new capacitor, and guess what charges your new capacitor, battery, and system.......YOUR ALTERNATOR. its all undue stress that could be negated with a good battery designed for a car system. So long story short a capacitor is only a half-a$$ed battery, GET A GOOD OPTIMA YELLOW TOP.

capacitors only mask the bigger problem, and are a bigger drain on your system since they constantly charge
get a good optima (I have a redtop and it's fine on my 900+rms underrated system)...and upgrade your ground connections to 0 gauge. It's not difficult, expensive, or take much time...and is good insurance for a system with large current draw.
