Erratic Shifting Problem

I've got a 99 CL 3.0L (Auto). After I got my Tanny Flushed it started shifting weird.
It will hold a gear longer than it should and downshift hard. I went to one of those IAMSAM machines that lets you diagnose your ECU yourself and it told me that I needed a new battery and that my VSA Modulator Control Unit needed to be replaced. I took it to the Dealership and asked what they though it was and of course they said that I needed to purchase a whole new tranny for $3-4K.

Anyone know what might be wrong with my Tranny?

I think this is just kind of common with the autos. It shouldn't do it, but I have heard other people talk about it doing this too.

What codes were detected by IAMSAM?

I've never heard of VSA Modulator Control Unit. Are you sure of those words?

good luck

The VSA is the (Vehicle Stability Assist) unit.
It controls the brakes it the car gets out of control.
It also decreases the amount of power sent to the wheels even if you are punching it during an accident. I looked it up and it says it's around $700.00.
It has nothing to do with the tranny though. That's why i'm confused by the fault codeds that IAMSAM gave me. It said nothing about the tranny acting weird.

im pretty sure the 3.0's dont have vsa. my 02 tl-s has it but my 3.0 didnt. before you change the whole tranny change the 2-3 gear pressure sensor (im assuming it does this harsh shift into second gear. if it dont work then your tranny is prolly toast. flushing is murder for these trannies.

On Board Diagnostics 2.0 is a standard vehicle fault system that all cars after 1996 employ. When a diagnostic is extracted from the OBD2 system, the fault code starts w/ P and has 4-digits. Not sure what P means, but its precedes all the codes in my shop manuals. Since you had a diagnosis, I would have thought your printout would include the Obd2 codes.

good luck
