I have a '97 2.2cl with 149k. It has recently started to idle funny when in park. The rpm's spike back and forth between 1000 and 2000.This only occurs when the motor is warm and it does not happen all the time. I have also noticed that the rpm's spike when it is in first or second(automatic) but again not all the time? Is this a tranny problem?? I have noticed from the posts, alot of people seem to have problems with their tranny's, but everything I have read leads me to believe that this is a 6-cyl problem. Thoughts?

 

Idla Air Control Valve...

 

A large vacuum leak can cause this problem. Check all vacuum lines, and look for intake manifold leaks.
