Engine makes a screeching noise when starting...

Every time I start my car on a cold mourning my car would make a screeching noise for about 5-10 sec. It only happens on a cold start-up, and would screech for about 5 times and stops. Anyone know what can be wrong? I assuming that this is the starter related issue...Please help I need some input from people who had this problem before...

My 94 Accord 2.2L sometimes screeches for 1-2 secs on cold startup. It's a loose belt. I just replaced the PS drive belt, which was against the stop and could not be tightened further. It may have loosened.

A belt screech is pretty distinctive. Are you sure it's not a belt?

If noise is not a belt, it could be a cooling fan. I've had them screech terribly, but they wouldn't stop after 10secs, unless the AC is on.

A starter that fails to release from the flywheel might cause a screeching noise. Suggest have someone start the car while you try to isolate the noise source.

good luck
