Meh, i've been riding on a torn boot with my 1992 civic for over a year an a half, and 2 canadian winters, it never clicked, but when it started making noise... omg, loudest screach and clanks you will ever hear! hahaha.

As the other guys said, its best to replace the whole axle if the boot is ripped. You can get a rebuilt axle for 60$...

lol I've ridden on both busted front axles on my cb7 for over 3 years lowered and never replaced them or had them click. It really all depends on your driving and weather conditions. moist/salty road conditions will accelerate boot tearing and drying out the internal cv joints. But once they get clicking it's best to handle that asap, as you don't want them seizing on you...and I've heard stories where the axle actually separated at the exposed joint

Yup, i just got my drivers side cv boot replaced. I noticed it was torn this past weekend while changing the oil. Got it fixed before it started clicking.

^ when your mechanic replaced it he could have damaged the wheel speed sensor, maybe it's not sitting right, or if you JUST got it done, the abs might just need to reset..in that case- keep driving.

ABS sensor works by "watching" fins of your cv axle, right near the brake caliper, quite possible your cv axle is vibrating/moving which would confuse the sensor cause the light to go on. Also I agree with everyone here, this sound is caused by the cv axle. Get it replaced and be sure to check you abs sensor to see if it has been damaged
