Check engine light just came on.. I scanned it and searched the code up. I need a new catalytic converter .. I'm a noob so someone please tell me if that's really important

 

It wont cause any problems other than less mpg and maybe a worse idle or slight drivability issues.

If left alone it can cause your O2 sensors to go bad especially the rear one that bolts in the cat.

I recommend getting a new oem unit asap when you can afford it.

I got the same code. It was not the cat or the o2 sensor. You should try cleaning the egr first then see if code clears.
