car doesn't start, possibly (N) switch
hey i need some help! My car was running fine then all of the sudden i went to the pool and when i tried to leave it wouldn't start. All lights and radio and everything work but the engine wouldn't start. not even trying to turn over. I replaced the starter the next day with nothing then i thought it was the battery...replace it.....still nothing. Have checked all fuses everything is good. My only other thought is something i've been told thats called a neutral switch. does anyone know how to check this or has any idea whats going on?

yea if its an Automatic it wont start until the tranny is in Neutral or Park, if its a stick, then it wont do it unless youre fully on the clutch, regardless of shifter position........... I honestly dont know how to check, but what specifically is happening, does it make any noise at all or do you just turn the key and nothing no sound no vibrations, nothing

i tried starting it in N and putting it in gear then back into park and nothing....it doesn't make any noise or anything. when i turn the key on you can hear everything getting power but it just seems like theres just nothing happening when you turn the key.

well if it's not that then could it be my ignition switch? I've already had the recall work done. Does anyone know how to check the ignition switch? or even where its located? I really need to get it running for work and i'm running out of ideas, and the thought of spending big bucks at the shop for an easy DIY fix is killing me.........

well technically the immobilizer is part of the ignition switch, its the thing that kills the ignition if it doesnt detect the special little chip inside the key, it could be that thats failing, maybe the reciever, maybe the key??

honestly ive got no idea, if youve got a 97 whether 2.2 or 3.0 it will NOT have it but if youve got a 98/99 you might be able to see if its the chip in the key, take it to a place that will grind keys, they can check if a key is chipped, if it comes out negative then thats youre problem since it should have one in there......... even faster, if youve got a spare key that either came with the car or that you got from Acura, try that one, if it doesnt work then then its something else, unless both keys' transmitters are busted, which 1 out is unlikely enough,m but 2, no

Still won't start, could it be feul pump?
Has anyone ever had a fuel pump go bad? What were the symptoms? I am the same guy that had the problem with the car not starting. Someone mentioned that it could be the fuel pump, if you have any info where it is and how to test it please let me know.........thanks

Check No. 15 and No. 18 fuses in the underhood fuse box and make sure they are sound. Check the blk/wht wire to the starter solenoid for 12V w/ keyswitch in START position. If no voltage, the keyswitch may be problem if you have an Auto trans. If manual trans, there is a starter relay that could also be the fault. Keyswitch seems most likely, however the AT gear postion switch can interrupt the Blk/Wht lead. You will need to check for 12 V to the AT gear position switch to be certain the keyswitch is the problem.

I would recommend downloading a 94-97 Accord manual to assist finding components. They are close enough to 97 2.2CL to help find things. It's too tedious and difficult to explain every detail by posting. Manual can be downloaded from www.hondahookup.com/manuals/.
AT gear position switch is the center console trans position switch. Remove console and check for power on the blk/wht wire to the switch. Here again the manual will help as the console details are similar.
Keyswitch is in the steering column w/ the keylock system. You may want to pay a professional to install, although it's not terribly difficult. There are some security bolts to remove.
