ABS Light for 30 secs then Engine Dies
Hi folks,
I checked the forum before posting this and was unable to find a close match.
We've owned our CL for five years and it has been fairly reliable. I've been through the driver window regulator, door handles, a wheel bearing and a few other minor things. The car currently has 161,000 miles.
In the last week the following has occurred twice. The ABS light comes on for about 30 seconds and then the engine stops running. I pop in the clutch, engage the starter, and the engine fires right up again and the ABS light remains off after the normal start up cycle.
My first thought is the ignition switch starting to fail. I noticed from other threads that there is a recall on the switch and I'll check into that with the dealer next week.
What is throwing me a bit (and why I am posting this) is the ABS light coming on for 1/2 minute or so before the engine cutting out.
Any thoughts, suggestions, etc. are welcome and appreciated.
TIA.

hmm.. i would definitely suspect the ignition switch, but wouldn't rule out a bad battery or alternator. The ABS light will illuminate if there is a sudden drop in voltage to the car's electrical system, rendering the system unsafe. This would explain why it comes on then the engine dies. But being able to restart it immediately sounds like the switch.

Ian,
Thanks for the reply. I believe there is a recall on the ignition switch. It sounds like I should contact the local Acura dealer and determine if my car is in the affected group.
