97 CL Engine Shakes
97 CL Engine Shakes
Hello to everyone, Im new here
I had a question i've got a 97 CL 2.2 5spd with 80K miles. The car is pretty clean and runs pretty good except for one thing everytime i turn on A/C it starts to vibrate, but not noticable while drivin over 40MPH also does same when Fan goes off too, Im guessing it might be a few things , so want to hear from the Pros how can i get rid of that
This problem is almost always due to dirty throttle plate, throttle bore, and dirty EACV (acura's name for Idle Air Control Valve). EACV tries to increase idle to compensate for AC load, however if the valve is defective or blocked w/ dirt it cannot open and idle will go down w/ added AC load and vibration increases.
The throttle plate and throttle body are cleaned in place by removing the air inlet duct and spraying throttle body cleaner and using an old toothbrush to scrub. Use a paper towel for wipeup.
The EACV is cleaned by partially removing, leaving the coolant lines attached to access the valve for cleaning w/ throttle body cleaner. Don't wet electrical parts w/ cleaner (bad for coil windings coating). Clean by spraying, soaking, and flushing till return runs clean. Check EACV for function by apply ing 12V to electrical connector (released from harness). You should hear a solid click of the solenoid valve movement. This part is a bit tricky as the EACV is on back side of the throttle body. Patience and determination are essential tools on this one.
Make sure both cooling fans come on w/ AC compressor. If not you have a bad fan. This can increase compressor load and cause premature failure of compressor in worst case.
good luck
