3rd gear slips

Its an automatic 2.2L 1997.It slips in 3rd gear after about 3K rpms.Im wondering if it is the syncro or the gear worn down?
If it was the torque converter wouldnt it slip in every gear?
Any other ideas? The trans shifts kinda of rough in every gear,Im thinking that may be the inserts in the mounts??
I just bought the car for 1000$ so it has a few quirks.Im going to change the trans fluid this weekend, hopefully it wont be full or shrapnel! Any suggestions welcome.
Hopefully I can clean this little car up and make A nice lil beater out of it.

That's what my transmission was doing right before it went out on me. Just make sure there's no grinding noises.

if your transmission is slipping, the last thing you want to do is to change the tranny fluid. The metal shavings in your liquid are the only thing keeping your tranny from completely dieing right now...change it and the smooth consistency of your new fluid will make your tranny die soon as you can blink

He's right. Start saving your pennies for a tranny. Your clutch packs have worn all their friction material off and its all floating around in the fluid. As soon as you drain the fluid all your friction material comes out with it and then you put in new slippery fluid, and it causes it to slip that much more.

if you say u have everygear shift hard.
When a sensor on my throttle body went, i had it changed the whole assembly because i was younger but now i know i could have just changed a sensor.
the car would not shift under 4-6rpm.
that was my problem...

good luck

Well the car is still running and driving.I leave it in d3 driving around town and thus it doesnt slip because it only slipped on 3-4 shift.
it still shifts rough.I hope it makes it till spring im going to look into an h-series and 5-speed.
