Not CL related but still fun DIY custom civic cold air intake install
So I posted rants about this in the hay guys thread but figured I'd throw up some pics. My buddy has an 01 Civic Ex and some dude gave him a random intake claiming it was a civic intake but it looked identical to my 3.0 short ram intake, so needless to say it wouldn't fit since the throttle body faces up and not out. So anyhow after removing the resonator box and the filter box, I didn't wanna put it all back in so I made up my own ghetto short ram. So he had bought a 3" k&n filter to match the big ass intake that wouldn't fit, so I had to fashion my own tube with a bunch of adapters, and run it through the stock filter box with the filter removed.
It worked for a week until he ordered a CAI for his car. However that was not the end of it... He ordered an ebay CAI however all the descriptions reference a MT manual tranny, which is a different location from the auto. He ordered an AT but was sent the MT anyway. We discovered this after I installed the short ram half and saw how it would run. To top all that off, he tried taking the k&n filter back to exchange it for a 2.5" to fit his ebay intake and they didn't have any k&n or aem filters in 2.5" so he picked up an APC "high flow" k&n knock off that was the biggest ricer piece of crap, with it's neon orange color.
Even better than that was that the filter cone was not glued to the upper part and kept falling off the black plastic strip is where the filter kept seperating from, you can see my attempt to brace it which I wouldn't let him drive around with cuz I didn't trust it.
so I ended up putting the ebay filter on until he could get a k&n and a bypass valve for the cai. Let me show you why I tell everyone to get a k&n or aem filter, this was what was inside the crappy ghetto ebay filter. GLUE LOTS OF GLUE! Just imagine if this crap heats up and sucks into your engine.
Sooooooooooooo I slapped the ebay filter on and let him have an SRI for a week.
Here's my friend buddy f'ing around with his intake pieces
:theghey:
Can see the chivic in the background
Now to compare the quality of the k&n extreme filter, much better
Picture of an aem bypass valve just like mine, I highly recommend it for anyone with a cold air intake
Now the REAL fun begins. Yesterday time to install the cold air half, and of course they sent the MT intake instead of the AT intake so it doesn't route around the tranny. Here's how off it was roughly, it was actually way worse than this.
Test fitted the k&n and you can see it's way off, wouldn't go behind the bumper or into the fenderwell. You can see the line for the first cut.
So time for the dremel
and then sanding
and of course it didn't FIT! So back to dremeling, cut another piece off.
There's what I hacked off to make it work, was a pain in the ass to cut and I hope to never do it again, but after sanded the edges and sanded, and got the damn tube to fit! Finished product
