I believe that a manual tensioner does not rely on any springs or hydraulic pressure to maintain tension on the timing belt. The tension is manually set by the user and remains consistent over time. Thus eliminating the possible failure of the tension assembly of a auto tensioner. I am applying this info from my past experiences with motorcycle cam chain manual tensioners. If I am wrong, someone please chime in and correct me so that members do not get the wrong information.

a large percentage of people have reported failures of Auto Timing Belt Tensioner on H22s. Failure results in the timing belt skiping teeth and resulting in valve train damage. The H23 (Non VTEC) tensioner is manual, therefore eliminate the possiblity of the aboce happening.
