DIY-cupholder lights

well it's about time for this. I know some fellow AZ'ers were waiting for this. so with nofuther ado the cupholder lights

First what you need.
5 inch light strip. ($15)
wire cutters
electrical tape

now what to do

First.
Clean your cupholder (they pop out for those who dont know)

Second
Grab the light strip

and peel back the white paper on the back

Third
place the light strip in the cupholder lke in the picture below(yes my cupholder is very ditry i didnt wash then like i said to and there is glue and holes for past mods)

(if you want to you could place it straight in but then youll see more wire)

Fourth
pull wire throught the back(nearst to the console

5)psh wire down between plastic and carpet looking inside the hole where the cuphloder sits

6) you need to pull the wire toward the front of the car and tuck it under the plastic

then reach in and pull it out of the ashtray hole

after this i followed BlackAck's Diy on how to make leds light up with interior lights
at this link
https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/question-about-changeing-head-unit-190769/
also you could hardwire it to the batt. and throw a switch on there. this way if you dont have a orange lead on your harness you still can do this.

damn dude. your shits dirrttyyy. The diy is pretty good, im not a fan of showing wire at all if i do a light mod so id probably have to drill a hole on the side or something.

exactly what i was thinking, wires showing=ghetto/ half assed.
you should drill little holes for just the light to come out of or for the leds to stick in.

That was my first thought when I saw he ran them across the middle, was to put holes for the LED's, I really wanna ring the cupholders though. He says they won't stick, but I think I'm up to the challenge. Still can't decide whether to do green or white though, white would look really out of place but my GF saw this and told me to do white. Guess I'll poll at the meet and see

Im gonna figure a slightly different way to mount the lights too so its a lil cleaner. IMHO blackack i would do the white (i believe your interior is already green led) because it would contrast very well. if you want to do something a little different along the same lines heres a video. still not sure if i will get flamed for doing something like this but i think it looks cool.

I know the music is gay but the effect looks pretty cool

Yeah, the only reason I lean toward green is because I've been replacing and soldering new green led's in my interior everywhere I can, so white may be out of place. Especially if I don't keep water bottles in it. We'll see

your user name is misleading, because that is not clean looking haha. trying using brackets or hot glue.

I was planning to use double sided 3M, but have been leaning toward drilling holes for the led's and mounting them from underneath

the only thing that sucks is putting your console all back together since the cupholders will have wires hanging from them and thats one of the things you need out to put a couple screws in. just take that all into consideration.

I wonder if something like this would work in the cupholders?

sorry for the slow response. i did it for a friend. theyre are a couple ways to do it with different results. different light patterns things like taht. i though this was the coolest effect that was still really cheap.

Took a while for me to get around to my interior but grabbed a couple 3" optix led strips and threw them in, came out really well, even makes the edge of the cupholder glow when the lid's closed.

Used some 3M Adhesive promotor and the 3M doublesided molding tape that came on them, they stay really well. Mounted them to flat parts on each side, didn't want to put them in the bottom, but I like my compromise and it lights up the cupholders better I think

Spliced both sets into 1 set of wires and soldered them together

Couldn't tuck the wire under the lip, so it rides along top, doesn't really get in the way of the lid when it's open either

Testing them out, they look really good in the car, no pics yet

Also swapped out my 4" led bars under the dash for 24 led 12" flexible bars, man what a difference
