Would it be worth it?
I need some input here......I currently have a 1997 3.0.
i really wanna trade it in for a 98 2.3 or maybe even another 3.0 not sure yet.
Would it be worth trading it in for a car that is around $16,000 if I still owe about $12,500 on my car.
theres nothing wrong with my current car except 1 minor cosmetic flaw.

Why do you want to trade so badly?
Financially, it's not going to make much sense, so unless there is a strong emotional reason, logic won't support it. You're upside down on your '97, meaning that you will have to pay to unload it plus the increased cost of getting a '98.

It depends on mileage, condition of the car, and where you live, but the trade-in value of your '97 is around $10K. That means you owe $2.5K more than what you can get for it. Then you're talking about buying a $16K car, which means you need a loan for $18.5K (plus taxes and stuff). Unless there is a compelling reason to do it, I can't see why you'd do that just to get a one-year newer version of the same car you already have.

Oh, my bad. I guess I did not read close enough.
Then, IMHO, every day that you wait, the idea gets better.
I mean, if you owe a certain amount today, then next payment you will owe less, and the price of a 98 will go down too. See what I mean. But as far as doing it now, I cant see why you would. It doesn't make much financial sense.

What is the huge difference between the two except for a little bit of wood and a less attractive grill. Wait a year and get a type-s. That's what I am doing.

Unless there is a real sound reason that you want a 98 and hate the 97, such as you want a 5 speed 98 BADLY, there is absolutely no reason to do it. You lose about 5 grand simply on taxes, trade in value and your loan, then add the price difference between the two cars, and you're down 8 grand, but have a car that is worth only 3 grand more. :sqnteek: Also, your going to lose another G at least in interest on the new loan. Just wait for something else. (6 speed type S maybe )

Sounds funny I must admit, but i really can see the logic of it if you compare two other cars instead of being hung up on the CL issue. If he bought a new Civic and really didn't like it cause it was automatic and wanted an accord 5-speed that was only a bit more and he'd be driving what he really wants, AND he is having such an easy time paying for his car-note that he wants a few grand more just for "old times sake" then YEAH! It does make sence. Because he'll be in the car he WANTS.
I think the fact that he's deciding between two CL's is throwing everyone off.
I'd get an even newer 2.3 if I could afford it. Newer so that you know there's not much that will go wrong with it, and the 5-speed is fun, the only way to go for me...
Do what you want to do. What would make you really happ? Are you planning on keeping the car for a long time? If so then I think it's worth it. If you just like to get different cars all the time then I'd say don't do it, you'll just want another later on.
Of course, if you are willing to pay $4,000 or more then why don't you take a small loan out and do a engine swap and a ton of mods. That way you get a CL (what you want) and a 5-speed (what you want) and a fast modded car (what we all want) AND the higher payments on your loans that you've always dreamed of!!
That's a whole lot of what you want

Nomad is pretty close to being right.........about the wanting a newer car with less miles and hopefully fewer problems down the road. I just don't wanna dump anymore money on a 97 (suspension, etc, etc) ...but now that I've heard some good points i'm thinking twice.........I'm gonna avoid driving past the Acura dealer, so they won't lure me in. At least for the remainder of the winter.
As for the 2003 CL-s six speed.......i don't think I'd spend that much money on it (i hate the 2nd gen body style) I'd rather get a TL-s, used M3, Used S2000, Used IS300, New Z, New KIA's with the 100,000 mile warranty (joke)...and plenty of others.
